Emergency Dental Services
What is a Dental Emergency?
If you find yourself in a situation that demands immediate attention from a dentist, such as a lost crown or broken tooth, Circle Drive & 8th Street Dental is here to help.
Having your urgent dental situation resolved in a timely manner can help preserve your natural teeth, prevent an infection from developing, and most importantly, help relieve any dental pain you might be feeling.
The following common dental issues are emergencies that should be treated right away. Call our dental clinic so we can schedule an appointment.
If you require immediate care, go to your nearest emergency room straight away.
-
Lost Crowns
While crowns are built to last up to 15 years, they can occasionally become loose and fall off your tooth prematurely. Don't panic if this happens to you. Call our office right away for an appointment.
In the meantime, find your crown, gently rinse it with warm water, and place it in a container to bring to your appointment. We can sometimes reattach your existing crown and save you the time and cost of having a new one created.
Ideally, you should receive dental care the day your crown falls out, but we understand this isn't always possible. If your exposed tooth is causing you pain, purchase some temporary dental cement or wax from a pharmacy to cover your tooth until your appointment. This will help protect your tooth until you can come to our office.
-
Lost Fillings
If your filling comes loose or falls out of your tooth, call us to make an appointment as soon as possible.
This is a dental emergency because your tooth will be susceptible to additional decay due to the hole being exposed.
Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on the affected side until you have the filling replaced.
-
Chipped or Broken Teeth
Have you chipped or broken a tooth? Try to find the missing tooth, put it in a clean container and bring it to your appointment. Your dentist can potentially reattach it. Whether you find the piece or not, call our office right away to have it repaired.
-
Knocked-Out Teeth
If you're able to find your knocked out tooth, rinse, hold it by the crown, not the root, and rinse it with warm water before re-inserting it into your tooth socket. Once the tooth is in place, gently bite down to hold it in position.
If you cannot reinsert your tooth, put in a container of milk and bring it to your appointment. If you're experiencing pain, you may apply a cold compress to your cheek.
Call our office as soon as possible. The sooner you can have this dental emergency treated, the better chance your dentist will have of saving your tooth.
If the tooth cannot be saved, we offer restorative options, such as dental bridges or dentures, that can be used as tooth replacements.
-
Swelling, Pain or Discomfort
Are you experiencing moderate to severe swelling, pain, or discomfort in your mouth or jaw area?
Call us as soon as possible and follow these steps to alleviate pain in the meantime:
- Apply a cold compress to your cheek on the area where you are feeling pain.
- Take an over-the-counter pain medication.
- Use salt water to flush the area that is in pain. This will help remove any debris that could be causing the toothache.
Our dentists should see the swelling or condition to diagnose the cause and plan quick, effective treatment.
