Developing Your Treatment Plan
Dental technology has changed significantly over the past few decades. With the equipment we use today, we can diagnose dental health issues and perform procedures in a minimally invasive manner.
In our exam rooms, you'll find monitors used to display your digital X-rays and scans. By sharing this data with you, we can walk you through your treatment plan and explain how any dental conditions may be affecting your teeth, gums, and jaw.
We find that the more information patients have about their oral health, the more confident they are in making informed decisions regarding their dental care. Our dental technology helps us provide patients with context to make these choices.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays help us capture detailed, high-resolution images of the teeth, gums, and other oral structures, as well as conditions that may be affecting them. These images allow your dentist to examine parts of your mouth not visible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays can be manipulated by cropping, rotating and zooming. They can easily be shared with any specialist you may be referred to, or with your insurance company to explain why a treatment is needed.
iTero 3D Intraoral Scanner
The iTero® intraoral scanner is used to take accurate, three-dimensional impressions of your bite. Your dentist can use this light-emitting wand to scan your entire mouth and capture a digital image of your teeth within minutes. This device allows your dentist to collect accurate data to generate digital replicas of the hard and soft tissues in your mouth. These can be used to plan for dental implants and orthodontic procedures such as Invisalign treatment.
Panoramic X-Rays
Panoramic X-rays allow your dentist to generate a single image of your entire mouth. This two-dimensional “flat” image allows us to see the upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), teeth, and nasal and sinus structures. These X-rays are recommended every three to five years, as they can help your dentist identify problems such as periodontal disease or cysts in the jaw bones. They may also be used to plan treatments for tooth extractions, dentures, dental implants, and other dental procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening Device
The VELscope® is a hand-held oral cancer screening device with two key components – an LED right that emits a specific wavelength of blue light and an eyepiece with an integrated optical filter. Your dentist shines the light into the oral cavity and examines the lining of the inside of your mouth to identify diseases, infections, and other abnormalities, such as cancerous and pre-cancerous changes to cells. Abnormal tissue growth appears as a dark spot, while surrounding healthy tissue appears fluorescent.
